Sugar House Stud is a small yard based in a village in Cheshire, Since 2004 our aim and dream was to breed top quality performance horses aimed at top level dressage, eventing and show jumping careers; we focus on breeding for QUALITY rather than quantity and as such only produce two foals a year.
Whilst the stud is small, it is perfectly formed, and has a lot to be proud of. We have presented many homebreds to the BEF Futurity Evaluations, all of them receiving First premiums or Elites and one with the highest score in the dressage section. We would have presented many more over the years but our foals sell well and usually via word of mouth, so that we often don't get the chance.
We've sold horses to European Three Day Event Individuals and Team Gold Medalists, the Italian event team and many professional and amateur dressage riders. We have bred two exceptional stallions who both were approved and have been used by clients all over Europe.
We have Sold all our foals to good competition homes and we stay in touch with all of them and enjoy watching and hearing about their progress.
We are very proud of our own homebred stallion Franklyn Sugar (Furst Heinrich x Accord) A Fürst-Heinrich son clearly influenced by his sire with a coveted Holstein dam line in his pedigree. He is a modern, elegant and versatile young stallion, with all the attributes needed in the competitive sport horse world. With exceptional conformation, superb front and beautiful head; he commands attention wherever he goes. He is graded BWBS (2009) and received a first premium BEF plus the highest dressage score! He was also awarded Approved status this year (2016) by the German panel of judges from the AES, the highest accolade the can award until his youngstock are competing internationally .
"Franklyn Sugar", by the World Champion Young Dressage Horse,"Furst Heinrich"; who although sadly now deceased, is a prolific sire of sports horses in all disciplines worldwide. Awarded a Premium Stallion at his licensing, he then went on to become Champion of his performance test in Münster-Handorf. As a five-year-old in 2003, he was crowned World Dressage Champion an accolade one of his progeny in 2011 when woodlander Farouche achieved the same tittle at the same age!.
After Franklyns success in all the young horse classes he was placed 3rd in the Hickstead 6yr old championship. Where the fabulous Farouche was 1st on 99.6%. So First and third were British bred horses by the same sire, Fuerst Heinrich. Great news for British Breeding. Franklyn is now 10yrs old and is competing at BD Advanced level moving up to PSG this summer with his new rider, Henry Boswell. He has been combining his competition career with his breeding commitments for the last 5 years and we now have some wonderful stock on the floor proving Franklyns talent and trainability is inherent, with one of our homebred 4yr olds already being invited to the BEF Equine Bridge. Enjoy looking through our website and if you require any information on using our stallion or on any of our stock, please do not hesitate to contact us!
Franklyns very first foal, a filly out of a Lux Z mare was awarded a high First Premium at the bef Futurity in July 2012 and was highly commended by the judges at her dams mare grading in June, where the mare was awarded Head Stud Book Status. This filly is really quite special and although we are always open to offers on our young stock, I think this one will be a keeper!
She is now 4yrs old and we have kept her, She is the most versatile mare, we have done the premier league young horse class, show jumped round 1m tracks and been in the top ten in the BYEH series. Although her movement is super, her scope cross country is to special to waste so this little mare will more than likely go to an Event home this year.
Sadly her full brother born this year, was put to sleep due to complications during foaling. We hope we can recreate this breeding very soon.
